Sledovi poledenitve v dolini Krnice

Predavala bo Erika Kozamernik.

The impact of agricultural land use on soil properties and fungal community response to drought conditions

Vabljeni na predavanje z naslovom: The impact of agricultural land use on soil properties and fungal community response to drought conditions, ki bo v sredo 27.11.2019 ob 11.00 v veliki dvorani GIS.

»Conventional arable management leads to changes in soil water/nutrient retention and yields through compaction, reduced carbon sequestration, and loss of microbial diversity and abundance. Degraded soils are less resilient to perturbation including droughts, which are projected to increase in frequency and severity. Restoring soils through implementing grass-clover ley (long-term uncropped fallow) has been shown to increase organic carbon and crop yields, though little work has looked at the effects on microbial diversity or stress response. Thereby the aim of this research was was to investigate the role of arable extensification and ecological intensification in promoting soil ecosystem services related to water retention and crop performance under future climate conditions.«

Predaval bo Philip Brailey-Jones. Predavanje bo v angleščini!

Soil respiration in forest ecosystems

Forests represent the largest terrestrial carbon stock and the potential of forest management to increase carbon sequestration in terrestrial ecosystems, which is an area of intensive research. Research is focused on soil as a long-term carbon stock but sensitive to disturbances.

Carbon enters the ecosystem by assimilation of atmospheric CO2 by green parts of plants and gets into soil mainly through roots and plant litter. Soil respiration, on the contrary, represents the major carbon loss from the soil and even the whole ecosystem. The presentation will introduce soil respiration as a part of forest carbon cycle, its components, drivers and measuring systems. Moreover, examples of the results on soil respiration in forest ecosystems and the effect of forest management will be presented based on the presenter’s research.

Predavala bo dr. Eva Darenova.

Predavala bo Ana Brglez.

Studies and perspectives of edible ectomycorrhizal fungi in Brazil

Vabljeni na predavanje z naslovom: Studies and perspectives of edible ectomycorrhizal fungi in Brazil, ki bo v torek, 28.5.2019 ob 12.00 v veliki dvorani na Gozdarskem inštitutu Slovenije.

The diversity and distribution of ectomycorrhizal fungi are unknown in Brazil, especially edible mushrooms. Recently, a new specie of Tuber was found associated with Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh.) K. Koch, in Southern Brazil. The first record of true truffles occurring in Brazil proves the possibility to cultivate pecan with truffles and stimulates novelty studies in this area. Therefore, my thesis project aims to respond (1) if European truffles can establish a symbiotic relationship with pecan in Neotropical conditions, and improve the growth of different varieties of pecan seedlings; (2) if truffles can establish a symbiotic relationship with Brazilian native forest species and exotic species; and finally (3) to investigate the distribution and diversity of ectomycorrhizal fungi in pecan orchards. The opportunity to visit the Slovenian Forestry Institute, funding by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) and the European Forest Institute (EFI), it will contribute on knowledge about the potential and challenges of edible ectomycorrhizal fungi in Brazil.

Predavala bo Joice Aline Freiberg. Predavanje bo v angleščini.

The Physiological and Molecular Responses of Populus Species to Cadmium and Sustainable forest management in China

Vabljeni na predavanji z naslovoma: The Physiological and Molecular Responses of Populus Species to Cadmium in Sustainable forest management in China, ki bosta v petek, 12.4.2019 ob 10.00 v veliki dvorani na Gozdarskem inštitutut Slovenije.

Povzetek predavanja The Physiological and Molecular Responses of Populus Species to Cadmium:

In China, soil in some regions is seriously contaminated by cadmium (Cd) which is a toxic and non-essential element for most organisms. Phytoremediation is an effective and environment friendly approach to reduce Cd pollution in soil. Populus species are fast growing woody plants and ideal candidates for phytoremediation of Cd-contaminated soil. In this talk, the selection of proper poplar genotypes for remediating Cd-contaminated soil, the physiological and molecular mechanisms will be presented of selected poplar genotype in response to Cd accumulation.

Povzetek predavanja Sustainable forest management in China:

The presentation on “Sustainable Forest Management in China” will briefly introduce the International initiatives on Criteria and Indicators for sustainable forest management, especially in most European countries and China. The significance of using C&I framework to report national progress toward sustainable forest management will also be discussed. Finally, some suggestions will be presented about the possible cooperation options between 16 European countries and China.

Predavala bosta prof. Zhi-Bin Luo in prof.

Predaval bo dr. Mitja Skudnik.
